Car Setups

Turn by turn

Turn 1: Start braking at about 120m and slow down to third gear before the apex.  Ride the kerb and hit the apex and as soon as you clear the apex and the kerb you should be almost sliding over to the track-out at the edge of the track.  Change into forth and apply full throttle with an early shift to 6th.

Turn 2: Ride up on the ripple strip and hold the throttle flat.  Get ready for the change of direction through T3.

Turn 3: Full throttle, hugging the inside of the corner, using the ripple strip but be careful not to hit the bollard.

Turn 4: You should have pushed wide as you accelerrated through turn 3 and be able to clip the inside ripple strip of the turn.

Turn 5: Brake at about the 110m point and aim the nose of the car so you just run over the ripple strip on entry, slowing down to first when you're in the middle of the road into T6

Turn 6: Pause throttle input for a split second, change back up to second and apply 25% throttle and engage 3rd

Turn 7: Run it wide and deep out to the right, over the ripple strip so you're almost hitting the wall, and dump it down to first then straight back to second, for a late apex, trying to straightline the corner as much as possible. Once you've cleared the apex mash the throttle to the floor and accelerate like mad

Turn 8: Start your braking at about 125m and cadence brake while shifting down to 2nd.  You should be coasting up to the corner in second and could change down to 1st, but don't, it'll help keep the car steady. Run a late apex because you want to stick the left as much as you can for turn 9.

Turn 9: Shift up to 3rd.  You don't need to but it allows you to minimize wheelspin and get a great exit.  I followed every driver during the race and everyone was substantially slower than me out of this turn (and turn 7). I'm going to assume it's because of this.

Turn 10: Flat out accelarate.

Turn 11: Brake at 125m and bounce over the ripple strip and wide off track proper.  Hit it down to 2nd gear and use the kerbs on the inside of the turn.

Turn 12 & 13: Bounce over the kerbs and get the car settled for 14.

Turn 14: An instant after your car settles get on the anchors and down to 2nd and up to 3rd once you clear the apex, but only apply 25% throttle.  Once you hit track out, nail it.

Turn 15: Hold it flat to the floor

Turn 16: Hold it flat on turn in and start engine braking when you're half way from the apex to track out.

Turn 17: Change down to 1st and pull 2nd as soon as you clear the apex.  Once you're nearly straight accelerate into 3rd and get ready to dump it down a gear for turn 18

Turn 18: Change down to second and hop the inside kerb before changing up to 3rd

Turn 19: Back to second and run over the kerbs.

Turn 20: Start shift down to second at 65m and hit the apex shifting up to 4th.

Turn 21: Down to 2nd and balance the throttle and steering until you hit trackout at the end of the track then floor it.

The key to a good lap at Yas Marina is to have a car that can ride the kerbs.

Woohoo. I sit atop the Supergrid here. Love this circuit. I'm not sure why, it just sits well with me and always has. I think it's the type of turns and that my style of driving is to bounce over the kerbs, a style which seems to work really well here.
